What levels of play do Academy Teams compete at?
Academy teams typically compete in District or State Leagueswithin US Club Soccer. At certain divisions, ASE has teams that compete at the highest levels of competition in the Pacific Northwest, the Northwest Champions League. Each team is placed into a league by the ASE Training and Coaching Staff based on several factors including team qualifications, past team success, and overall player development objectives.
When are Academy teams formed?
Academy teams are typically formed in March to May and run until tryouts the following year, but it is important to check the website regularly to make sure of any changes in the tryout schedule. Certain age divisions (e.g. high school divions) are held shortly after HS seasons come to an end.
How are Academy teams formed?
Academy teams are formed based on an evaluation and selection process (tryout) conducted by the ASE Training and Coaching Staff.  Evaluation camps are held at different times of the year depending on age division and level of play.
What are Preparation Academies?
Preparation Academies are essentially a camp conducted by the ASE Training and Coaching Staff over a period of one to three days and possibly longer depending on the need. Some of our best Trainers conduct a series of training sessions for the players, much like a soccer camp or clinic. This gives you a chance to meet some of the coaches and trainers to make sure our club is a good fit for your players.
Who is eligible to attend a Preparation Academy?
Any registered member of the US Club is eligible to attend a preparation academy in their assigned age group. Proof of US Club registration must be provided prior to attending.
How do you handle play ups?
Players that wish to “play up” are considered on a case-by-case basis. Play up requests must be submitted in writing to the ASE Director of Soccer Operations at least two weeks prior to tryouts.
What are the ASE Team Fees once my child has made a team?
Once your child has made an Academy team, there are four additional costs that you can expect to incur; ASE Registration Fees, League Fees, Player Kit Fees (uniforms, bags, warm-ups), and Tournament Fees.

ASE Registration Fees are annual fees that are used to support the overall mission of the Academy. Each player is required to pay a registration fee shortly after the team is formed. Registration fees are determined by the ASE Board of Directors based on the anticipated operating costs of the Academy. The typical registration fee can from $100 to $200 depending on the level of play.

League Fees are annual fees that are used to register your team into a league. Each player is required to pay a portion of this fee shortly after the team is formed. League fees are determined by the league orgnizer.  The typical league fee can run from $5 to $40/player depending on the level of play your team chooses to compete at.

Player Kit Fees - Each player is required to purchase the minimum player kit which includes your home and away game jersey, shorts, socks, warm-ups, and a team bag.  Player kit fees are collected shortly after the team is formed. The typical player kit can run from $250 - $300. The Developmental Program (U10 Divisions) are less expensive in player kit fees. A typical player kit for the developmental program is $75-100 and includes your home and away jersey, shorts and socks.

Tournament Fees largely depend on the number, and type, of tournaments that your team chooses to compete in. These fees are difficult to estimate for the year although, typically teams that compete in state leagues, such as District Select, end their seasons with at least one state tournament which run approximately $400 or $29/player (assuming a 14 player roster). If a team chooses to play in additional tournaments, then those fees would be in addition to this one. Tournament Fees are typically collected just prior to registering for a tournament.

Note: Academy teams are encouraged to raise additional funds through team sponsorships. Team sponsorships are divided equally amongst the team to reduce individual player costs. .
How much travel is involved with an Academy team?
This depends on the league and the number of tournaments that the team chooses to compete in.

Inland Northwest Copa league play games primarily in Eastern Washington. For the most part, there are no overnight stays involved.

Premier teams compete in the Puget Sound Premier League and play games throughout the state.  Normally this involves 3 - 5 trips to Western Washington or Wenatchee during league play with possibly some overnight stay required. The league and your manager will try their best to “double up” on away games so a team can play Saturday and Sunday to limit the travel and overnight stays. In a typical 8 game season where four of those games are away, we try to arrange the schedule so we have two weekends with travel and play two games on those weekends. This does not always work out though so make your decisions based on 3-5 trips.

Select, and Premier, teams are likely to attend one or more tournaments throughout the year which typically require overnight stays.

We recommend that you speak with your head coach about league and tournament plans prior to accepting an offer to join an Academy team.
